Meditation Tip – Start with your breath

Probably my favorite beginner meditation tip is also the best way to start any meditation session; focus on your breath.

Deep breathing slows the heart rate, focuses the mind and relaxes the body.

The three steps for a simple breath meditation are:

  1. Sit or lay down in a relaxed position, away from any distractions.
  2. Slowly allow yourself to concentrate on your breath, not forcing it, just watching.
  3. Continue to do this for any duration of time you want. I found that starting with 10 breaths was a great way to start. From there you can either continue to count your breaths or a duration of time like 10 minutes.

Note:
If during the meditation practice your mind strays, just allow it come back to your breath.
